My name is Megan and I’m a novelist.
I always said that I’d write when I “had time” or when I “retired”, but I realized that if I wanted to be a writer I just needed to get off my duff and do it. So a couple of years ago I started a novel. I worked on it off and on for about 6 months, mostly while recovering form a couple of back surgeries. I got the manuscript to the point where it needed revision and I lost steam.
Last year I moved to a new city and had my second daughter and, as a high school teacher moving after the start of the school year and with an impending maternity leave, I didn’t find a teaching job. So now I’m home with my two kids and I’ve decided to get serious about writing again.
I taught science for almost ten years before deciding to stay home with my babies. I’ve taught earth science, biology, geology, and most recently astronomy. I got to do some pretty awesome things during that time – like working on the Phoenix Mars Mission with two of my students. I also got to write for Kitt Peak National Observatory, I got to do an international Apple podcast on technology in education, and I got to open a school where students used laptops instead of textbooks.
Besides writing and baby-management I like to cook, garden, sing, paint, sew, and do medieval re-enactment.
